Think of a "middle of nowhere" airport, throw in an interesting landing and friendly folks and you get Air Harbor. Now, this airport isn't in the middle of nowhere, in fact it lies only 6 miles from a Class C airport and a large city. However, get on the ground and you find many abandoned buildings that betray what seems to be an almost abandoned airport. Look on the "ramp" however, and you will see a lively place, dozens or airplanes, old and new, are tied down and hangered here.
The airport lies between the two parts of a fork in a lake. After searching for a good 5 minutes 200 feet below the floor of Greensboro's Class C shelf, I found the little 2400 x 25' strip of asphalt. The narrow runway created an illusion that cause an odd pattern, however given enough room it was a non-issue. Landing runway 9 is uphill, so it is a good idea to land in the first 1/3 of the runway. After pulling off the runway, there is no one to tell you where to go. I simply pulled into an empty patch of grass beside a nice Commander 114. The "FBO" was a little shed, where I met a very nice flight instructor and his student. Be careful after takeoff because you will hit GSO's airspace in about a mile.
